You need to have an internet connection when you open Google Pay after the "tokens" expire or have all been used. I live in Germany and getting through a supermarket checkout is like a sport here lol they don’t like it if you’re making people wait.Įdit: I probably should have been more clear. I know you can change the default app, but it just really annoyed me with Google and all the times I had a cashier giving me dirty looks for holding up the line. Also, since I have a Samsung Watch, I decided even more in favor of Samsung Pay since it’s already on the watch. Samsung Pay (and Apple Pay) both don’t need any signal or wifi when you want to use them, so I started using Samsung Pay more. If I forget to open the Google Pay app before going in the store and don’t have signal, then it won’t load my credit cards for me so then I’d have to fumble around in my wallet to look for one of my credit cards. Also, I don’t always have great reception when I travel.

For some reason, I get poor reception in some of the bigger supermarkets near where I live. To use one of your saved payment methods in Google Pay, you need to have cell reception or wifi when you open the app. I used Google Pay for a while but then decided to switch to Samsung Pay because Google Pay started getting on my nerves too much.
